Pray, Pray and Then Pray Some More

In my previous blog post, I wrote about the kind of peace that only comes from God. It comes from God through praying, having faith, and reading his promises in scripture. As we journey through the Lenten season, many of us are really trying to let go of something.  We are very likely praying more in place of whatever that thing is that we are trying to kick to the curb.

Any Christian will tell you the more you pray, the closer you feel to God. God designed us to walk closely with Him, and to come to him all day with prayer.

Never stop praying. – 1 Thessalonians 5:17

Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart – Colossians 4: 2

Really God? You really want me to pray as much as possible? Why?

Don’t worry about anything; instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:6-7

So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. – Hebrews 4:16

Praying changes our hearts. It changes our attitudes. It changes our lives. It transforms. If we are to have a relationship with God, we absolutely must pray. Communication is vital for any relationship, and it certainly applies to our relationship with our Heavenly Father.

And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will. Romans 8:26-27

The fact that we don’t even have to know what to pray for, or how to pray, is unbelievably awesome. I have certainly come to God with such a heavy heart and had no idea what to tell him or ask of him, but it didn’t matter. And knowing that our Father knows us so well, that he hears our prayer, even if we don’t know what it is. Wow! What am amazing Father we have!

I challenge all of my brothers and sisters in Christ to pray as much as you can and see where it takes you.  I feel confident that you will experience more peace than you ever have before.
